Do you ever wish you could just let someone into your brain for an hour just so they could know what it was like in there? We do. All. The. Time. 

The Knowing by Australian author Madeleine Ryan manages to capture that experience. In this month’s selection we follow Camille on her commute to work as she grapples with how her life has taken shape. It’s funny, self-aware, exasperating, wry, and far too relatable as it puts millennial ennui in focus. 

As our 2025 program takes shape, we’ve already locked in a few of our selections and many of them touch on difficult subjects (as is typical for a WellRead selection!). In February, we wanted to bring some levity to your reading life. You will laugh as you read – whether you’re laughing with Camille or at her … that’s up to you – even while its subject matter hits close to home. 

We’ll warn you now, this is the kind of book you will feel strongly about. It’s ripe for discussion and here at WellRead we’ve already had several lively debates about the plot and how much of ourselves we see reflected in its unlikeable characters.
